Road map development for Bus fleet and Infrastructure Development for State Transport Undertakings
The project aims to help revive and reposition bus based public transport in India and seeks to demonstrate both the methodology and the utility of producing a road map for development of STUs. The project demonstrates benefits in undertaking long range planning and road map generation exercise. This long-range revival plan is based on modelling STU’s fleet requirement using the fleet estimation tool developed by SGA, Delhi. It is expected that the outputs from the tool will contribute to an informed short, medium and long-term planning and help STU’s to plan investments in manpower, fleet augmentation and infrastructure development, and effectively budget for planned expansion and redevelopment efforts. The project included assessing the current and future conditions as well as requirements of STUs in India and comparing these (current and future scenario for each) to derive action points and a road map for improvement. For the purpose, meeting with STU’s, data collection was done through site visits, Excel based projections were worked out and desired scenarios were developed for the STU’s followed by infrastructure gap assessment and Dissemination of the project findings with the respective STU’s. The Partner STU’s involved in the project are APSRTC, MSRTC and JKSRTC. Additionally, current status assessment of existing MSRTC bus infrastructure has been undertaken. This has been incorporated in the road map to develop a timeline of land bank available with the corporation for possible monetization.
