Bus Transport Infrastructure and Long-Term Resource Requirement Planning for Himachal Pradesh

The project included reviewing exiting bus terminals and developing design templates for different bus terminal categories (A, B and C) for Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC).Additionally, the tasks involved developing a low-cost bus stop cum snow shelter prototype design (including costing) and a long-range annual resource requirement plan for HRTC. The key outputs of this project were typical Bus cum snow shelter design for HRTC (4.5M X 2.0m), Design development of Jhalog ‘B’ category Bus terminal for HRTC (0.21 Ha), Design development of Nurpur ‘C’ category Bus terminal for HRTC (0.11 Ha), Design development of Dhalli Bus Depot, Shimla for HRTC (1.01 Ha) and Development of a long-range plan for HRTC. The bus shelter design task involved development of a prototype bus shelter design in ferrocement and insulated steel sheet with a total development cost of Rs. 100,000.

The tasks for bus terminal and depot planning included evaluation of shortcomings of existing bus infrastructure, transportation surveys and study of identified sites, design brief development and planning of sites, alternative conceptual design proposals for Bus terminal sites , finalization of best suited alternative concept option after discussion with stakeholders, detailed design and review of finalized option, development of final retrofitting plans for existing bus depot and multimodal transport Planning and design in the catchment area in the context of the proposed redevelopment plan of the Bus terminus and presentation of the same with STU – HRTC, as part of knowledge sharing and internal capacity building. The long-range resource requirement plan was developed after collecting detailed operational and existing fleet related data from HRTC. This plan included annual fleet procurement, land, staffing, budgetary and infrastructure development requirement between 2017 and 2050 for HRTC.
